Success Through Art
What is art?
Many definitions of art exist throughout the vast volumes of art texts and dictionaries. The definition that I feel best encompasses my goals as an art educator of elementary students is one of my own design: “ Art is a creative process of self expression.” With this definition as the foundation of the art program at Milton Elementary, ALL students are allowed the freedom to explore their individual levels of artistic ability and awareness without the fear of not being a ‘good artist.’ |
Mission Statement:
|
Based on the premise that “art is a creative process of self expression,” the goal of the art program at Milton Elementary is to empower students with the creative tools necessary to express themselves in the field of art and to interpret and discuss the artistic expression of others.
We will accomplish this by fostering in all students the ability to successfully utilize the principles and elements of art, nurturing individual creativity and reinforcing the students’ own sense of being an ‘outstanding achiever.’ |
In accordance with state and national standards, students will receive instruction in the use and application of the elements and principles of art as tools in the creative process of expressing themselves and communicating ideas.
They will be provided with opportunities to experience a wide assortment of media, tools and techniques for manipulating media.
Students will learn about the works of famous artists and the importance of the roles they played in the development of art history. They will explore the diverse contributions of cultures from around the world as inspirations for many of our projects.
